Greed. The perfume that doesn't exist.

I saw this today and thought it was so great. Do you remember the trailer to the fake Caligula remake? That was Francesco Vezzoli. He's 38 years old, Italian--obviously, and his project, GREED, A New Fragrance by Francesco Vezzoli was shown at the Gagosian Gallery in Rome earlier this year. I can't believe I didn't hear about this sooner.

In an artinfo.com interview he was asked: How concerned were you with the example of Duchamp as you conceived of Greed?

It was very important. His perfume bottle is such a genius piece. And then it ends up in the hands of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge — you can’t imagine a more appropriate metaphor for the past century, you know, Eau de Voilette by Duchamp ends up in the hands of the two most sophisticated, gay, creative brains in France since the War; it’s such a great story. The Duchamp perfume for me is unlike some of his objects — I know that this is dangerous to say, and people will think Vezzoli is taking some weird drugs — but compared to the urinal or other famous pieces, this has a kind of dandyish touch, a play with the vocabulary of fashion with Man Ray shooting him dressed like Rrose Selavy. I love that. There’s no real intellectual agenda. Just to say how much I loved that part of his work.

Francesco, how did the idea for Greed come about?

I’ve done a trailer for a movie that didn’t exist, an election campaign for candidates who were completely fictitious, and a premiere for a play that was never going to run. A project about the launch of a perfume that didn’t exist seemed like a natural next step.

I presume you started this project before the current economic crisis.

Yes, otherwise nobody would have green-lighted it.

Of course I was super excited also to find out that Vezzoli is friends with Lady Gaga:

The New Yorker had an article about Lady Gaga and Vezzoli and Frank Gehry which I found quite entertaining:

a large silver leather headdress brooded like an alien hen: Gehry had designed it, at Vezzoli’s behest, and Prada had fabricated it, for the avant-garde, hat-friendly pop star Lady Gaga to wear during a performance with dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet ... Gehry said that he had done the initial drawing on his iPhone, which an assistant then produced: a violet scribble with a black-and-blue iris at the center. “Since I’ve never designed a hat before, I was afraid she wouldn’t be able to walk,” he said. “I did have an idea that involved people with sticks holding it up, walking behind her. I didn’t know how far I could go with this thing."

Yeah, and Damien Hirst customized that pink butterfly piano she's playing in the performance. (?!?!)

I drank 3 cups of coffee this morning and accidentally dumped about 1/4 cup of sugar into my first cup. So I've been working very dilligently. Today I'm taking pictures and listing things. One of my favorite performances that I've seen of Michael Jackson was the 1995 VMAs. The tribute show to him I thought was kinda tacky, and then when Janet came out and performed Scream "solo" I just about started to cry. It was that incredibly touching. Also, I'm a big Lady Gaga fan so seeing her performance was awesome. I'm planning on either being Lady Gaga for Halloween or convincing Michael to go as Michael Jackson and I'll be Janet Jackson from Scream. We'll see...

I think my ex boyfriend is dating someone new. He's at least boning her and going on a vacay to Japan with her (I was stalking his facebook). Last night I was thinking "Hmm, wow it's been almost 5 months since I broke up with him. That's a kind of long time."

In many ways I'm totes over it but every now and then I fall apart and cry over it. Or I remember he gave me an engagement ring and I'm kinda like wtf? I don't know what to do with it. I don't think it's worth enough to bother selling and it's not something you can just throw away. /:

Mandz, Jeremy, Michael and I were talking about whether we'd prefer to see an ex with someone really attractive or someone ugly. Mandi and Michael said they'd prefer their ex to be with someone both ugly AND has a shitty personality. Jeremy and I were the opposite and said we'd rather have our ex's new gf/bf be physically attractive and have a great personality.

It's not that I'm particularly selfless or kind (because I'm not!). haha. It's just that if my ex started dating someone ugly and lame, I'd think they had low standards and assume that I too am ugly and lame. What do you guys think? I'm going to make this the new poll, but I want to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Adventures in Centralia

Michael and I saw "17 Again" last night. I thought it was going to be completely awful. However I loved it! It was so good and I can honestly say I liked it as much as I liked Twilight (read: a LOT).

Anyone familiar with Daniela Sea? She was in the L Word which I was obsessed with a few months ago and she played a transgendered Max. Anyway, Zac Efron looks like her. I highly recommend seeing "17 Again" especially if you like ridiculous movies.

Where have I been???

Stephanie asked me where I disappeared to. Thanks for missing me! Haha. My computer had been slowly dying; running slower, showing all kinds of symptoms of being hella virus-ridden until it crashed completely last night/this morning. I thought I would have to get back together with my Microsoft/SDET ex bf in order to get my computer back up and running. Fortunately though, my amazing dad reformatted it for me today. Which is nice because I don't have to do something dumb like move to Utah to get my computer fixed.

That was a joke anyway. I'm sure he would have helped me with my computer anyway, he's a nice guy. Despite the fact that every night before I fall asleep I have a quick flashback of him, leaving my apartment two years ago, to move to Japan ... I still have mostly fond feelings toward him. I think. Maybe.

I am re-installing/re-downloading all kinds of shit because I lost EVERYTHING. If anyone has any music suggestions for me to download I'd appreciate your input! I had amassed a decent collection of pirated movies and music and starting over is frustrating but kinda feels nice and fresh I guess too. :P

The other day my grandma called me to ask if I'd help her run some errands. While we were at the grocery store I passed this cute boy who waved at me and said "Hello." He had a really cute smile and for a second I had that awful insecure feeling where you think Oh crap! What if he was just smiling at me as a joke or out of pity? You know, the kind of insane insecurity that you have in middle school or high school. Or maybe that was just me. lol. Mostly I'm more confident than that, but not always. Slightly flustered, I smiled back and said "hi." But then when I got home and thought about it and I realized he's probably in high school. And then I felt kinda pervy. I hope he was 18 at least.

Chester French - Ciroc Star & Pizza Vending Machines in Italy???

I'm a bit of a fan of Chester French and I love this video for "She Loves Everybody" because the girl reminds me of myself a bit (:



Anyway, I read a myspace bulletin they posted about a new song available for free download. The song is called Ciroc Star. At first I didn't get it but say it outloud and it may make more sense. Ciroc & Roll? Haha. Anyway, Ciroc is my favorite vodka and I got a kick out of the song. What is your favorite vodka? Or what do you like if you don't like vodka? The last survey was about alcohol and I'm just curious what you guys like! But I will make a separate post about the survey results.

Second thing I wanted to talk about is this damn pizza vending machine. I can't decide how I feel about it. I mean, if it tastes good, I guess I would be really quite impressed. I just can't imagine food being prepared in a vending machine in three minutes for six bucks tasting good. If anyone ever gets to try this, please let me know how it is! lol
